Pelican Grill- Newport Coast (Thanksgiving Prix-Fixe Dinner)

Since everyone is talking Thanksgiving dinner right now, I'll give you my glimpse on my Thanksgiving dinner. And yes, my posts on Orange County restaurants/hotels will be out of order as the special stuff should be mentioned first after months of HK cafe postings and some product reviews. I'll give you the final order of my two OC trips in a week in index pages. Anyway, moving on now... The Resort at Pelican Hill, offered us a special package (American Express offer) of a room with a 20% certificate (of the room's value) back for spa/dining use. So, since it was Thanksgiving after all, why not have a Thanksgiving meal? Pelican Grill offered a three course menu with several different choices so we went. Andrea? Although it too also had a three course menu, we were not in the mood for a Thanksgiving dinner with an Italian twist, and plus, Edwin Goei of Monster Munching / author at the OC Weekly said it had great service but also had varying food, some being great while

Apple Curry Chicken

Remember what I said about liking curry in my last post on HK Curry? Well, this was actually the first recipe we cooked, but I thought this one would be more special so I left it for last. Plus, this is the 150th post on Eat. Travel. Eat! Got to make it something worth looking at like my previous special posts. And since you are probably (?) waiting for your turkey to cook right now or just bored right now, how about another recipe for you to look at. In reality, this would have just been Curry Chicken, but since we were making juice that day with our juicer and had plenty of apples available, why not add some apples into the mix? And also in that thought, thi s would fit into the Weekend Wokking theme of Apples for December. Perfect! Apples would also be perfect as the curry cubes we bought were the Vermont Curry version (made by House Foods), which had apple flavor according to the box. So there. Perfect. I enjoyed the taste, but this did not have that HK Curry flavor that the HK C

Curry Chicken (with HK Cafe style taste)

From Red Ant Cafe- Rowland Heights : "I seem to like curry a lot these days as seen by my recent posts ( here , here )" ...and if that is so, I should definitely write out a curry recipe, right? So, after buying a package of House Vermont Curry (in cube form, not sauce form- with 6 large one inch cubes), I was tempted to make curry. But of course, how about the protein? I like chicken. So we went to our local Fresh and Easy and got chicken thighs for only 1.19 a pound. That is the same price as Costco! Fresh, never frozen whole chickens are only 92 cents a pound. These prices have remained pretty stable so far...and with prices equal or lower than Costco they are a great deal. After purchasing the chicken, we prepped the ingredients and cooked. Easy peasy. Even preparing the dish does not take much time, although cutting pieces of chicken and vegetables is not the funnest thing to do in the world. For this version, we also added bell pepper, as it gives a taste that is simila

The Arboretum (Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden)

The Arboretum is a great place for multiple reasons, from being pleasant to being a perfect ground for advertisements, movies, and photographers. It is also a place for Eagle Projects for the Boy Scouts of America, which I was able to take part of a few months ago. Having such a diverse audience, it is obvious that people flock here for the Arboretum's different areas, using parts of each to create their own spot or an experience. After all, one Hyundai advertisement was shot at the driveway to the Arboretum already this year. Wedding photographers come here. I go here for a pleasant morning exercise, but now, with the D90, it is also a place for good test shots. So that is what I did. I'll start out with photos from the Sony W90 and then transfer onto the one visit where I brought the D90. Where to start out? The peacocks of course! Not only are they famous, they are beautiful. During the spring and summer seasons it is the best time to see them, as the males will open up thei
